Lizzy's Lotyls, LLC Policies & Terms of Sale

By using this website or purchasing from Lizzy's Lotyls, LLC, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the policies outlined below.

Animal Identification & Sex

Each of our axolotls is assigned a unique name for identification purposes only. Please do not use the name to determine the animal's sex.

When the sex is known, it will be clearly indicated.

If a specimen is listed as Potential, Probable, or Presumed male or female, its sex is our best professional assessment but is not guaranteed.

Specimens identified as DNA Proven have had their sex confirmed through PCR DNA testing. Adults may also be confirmed by reproductive history.

Health Guarantee

Lizzy's Lotyls guarantees that every axolotl is healthy at the time of local pick-up or shipment.

Each animal will leave our care free of any known illness, infection, injury, wounds, or recent trauma.

Because we cannot control the environment, water quality, husbandry, or care after an animal leaves our possession, we cannot guarantee the animal's health beyond the time of transfer.

Except as expressly provided under our Live Arrival (DOA) Guarantee, all sales are final.

Cancellations & Restocking

If a buyer decides to cancel a purchase before taking possession of the animal, a full refund is not guaranteed.

Cancelled purchases may be subject to a restocking fee of up to 100% of the purchase price, depending on the circumstances and the length of time the specimen was held.

Lifetime Rehoming Policy

If at any point after receiving an axolotl—whether by purchase or gift—you are no longer able to care for it, please contact Lizzy's Lotyls first.

Whenever possible, we will gladly accept the animal back or assist in finding it an appropriate new home.

Please note that purchase prices are not refundable under these circumstances.

Right to Refuse Service

Lizzy's Lotyls reserves the right to refuse or cancel any sale at our sole discretion.

Photos, Morphs & Growth

While we make every effort to accurately photograph and represent each specimen, colors may appear differently depending on individual computer monitors and mobile device screens. Axolotls may also naturally change in coloration as they mature.  Coloration is subject to change based on environment lighting, substrate/bare bottom surface color, and periods of normal rest or activity.

Morph identification is made to the best of our knowledge but cannot be guaranteed.

Sizes listed are approximate. Animals may continue growing before the time of purchase.

For the health and safety of our animals, no axolotl will be sold until it reaches a minimum length of three (3) inches, unless otherwise stated.

Shipping & Live Arrival Guarantee

Whenever possible, we believe local pick-up is in the best interest of the animal.

We offer overnight to two-day shipping via USPS Priority Mail Express at the buyer's expense.

If an axolotl arrives Dead on Arrival (DOA), the buyer may choose one of the following:

  • A replacement specimen (buyer pays replacement shipping costs), or

  • A refund of the purchase price, excluding the original shipping and handling charges.

To qualify for the Live Arrival Guarantee, the buyer must:

  • Notify Lizzy's Lotyls within one (1) hour of recorded delivery.

  • Provide clear photographs and video of the unopened, sealed shipping bag showing the deceased specimen.

If an animal arrives late but healthy, shipping charges are not refundable.

Payment, Holds & Pick-Up

Please contact us through our website contact submission form or via email at lizzyslotyls@yahoo.com to arrange payment and schedule a pick-up appointment.  Please check your spam folder for a reply if you do not hear back within 24-48 hours.

Appointments are confirmed only after payment has been received in full.

Specimens must be picked up within two weeks of purchase unless otherwise agreed upon.  Extended holds may incur a care fee per axolotl.

Typical appointment availability:

  • Monday–Friday: 4:30 PM or later (by appointment)

  • Saturday & Sunday: 8:00 AM–7:00 PM (by appointment)

Choosing Your Axolotl In Person

Buyers wishing to personally select their specimen during an in-person appointment must schedule a Saturday or Sunday appointment (or another mutually agreed-upon time).

A $50 appointment fee is required at the time of booking.

This fee will be credited toward the purchase price if an animal is purchased during the appointment.

If no purchase is made that day, the appointment fee is non-refundable and may not be applied toward future appointments or purchases.

Accepted Payment Methods

We currently accept:

  • PayPal

  • Venmo

Cash or check may be used during in person appointments only.

Shipping Restrictions

We will not sell or ship axolotls to any state or jurisdiction where possession or importation is prohibited by law.

At the time of publication, this includes:

  • California

  • New Jersey

  • Alabama

Biosafety & Zoonotic Disease Information

The health of both our animals and our customers is extremely important to us.

All axolotls and eggs handled by Lizzy's Lotyls are managed using disposable, powder-free nitrile gloves as part of our biosafety protocols.

Like many aquatic animals, axolotls and their environments may naturally harbor bacteria that can cause illness in both animals and people.

Examples include:

  • Salmonella

  • Aeromonas

  • Mycobacterium species

Aquatic environments may also contain other opportunistic bacteria capable of causing infections, particularly if they enter open cuts or are accidentally ingested.

To help reduce risk:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before and after handling your axolotl or anything in its habitat.

  • Wear gloves while cleaning aquariums, particularly if you have cuts or abrasions.

  • Avoid touching your face or mouth until your hands have been washed.

  • Clean and disinfect equipment and work surfaces after use.

  • Children should always be supervised while interacting with axolotls or aquarium equipment. Children under five years of age should not handle them.

Lineage & Breeding Policy

To preserve the long-term genetic integrity of captive axolotls, Lizzy's Lotyls maintains detailed lineage records on all breeding animals whenever possible.

We strive for every specimen we produce to have at least three generations of documented lineage and no known hereditary abnormalities.

Lineage information is not publicly posted.

This policy exists because of the increasing prevalence of misinformation, incomplete record keeping, inaccurate genetic claims, and the misrepresentation of lineage within the hobby.

Official lineage information must always come directly from Lizzy's Lotyls.

Lineage documentation, when available, may be provided at our sole discretion and may require an additional fee.

Lizzy's Lotyls does not publicly or privately:

  • Sell eggs

  • Trade eggs

  • Gift eggs

  • Wholesale axolotls

These policies are intended to promote responsible breeding practices and help preserve genetic diversity within the species.

If you intend to purchase one or more specimens for breeding purposes, this must be disclosed before or at the time of sale.

Lizzy's Lotyls reserves the right to decline any breeding-related sale at our sole discretion.

We strongly encourage buyers not to breed or resell our animals without first discussing lineage with us so that accurate genetic records can be maintained for future generations.

Care Acknowledgment

By purchasing an axolotl from Lizzy's Lotyls, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to follow the husbandry recommendations outlined in our Care section prior to bringing your new axolotl home.

Our care information has been developed from years of practical breeding and keeping experience and is intended to provide a strong foundation for successful axolotl ownership. While there may be multiple acceptable approaches to husbandry, failure to provide appropriate housing, water quality, temperature, nutrition, and routine maintenance can result in illness or death.

Before purchasing, please review our complete Care section:
