This setup is one of our favorites because it shows how artificial plants and living plants can work cohesively in an axolotl tank.
Artificial plants
Zero maintenance
No surprises
Always choose soft plants (with no sharp edges to prevent tail tears and injuries)
Live plants
Help with water quality
Add natural enrichment
Create that lush, underwater jungle vibe
One of our absolute live favorites? Lucky bamboo
It’s hardy, axolotl-safe, and thrives with its roots submerged in substrate. Not to mention, it tolerates low-light like a champ--looking cool and working hard behind the scenes.
The takeaway: there’s no “right” or “wrong” choice. But a thoughtful mix of both can give you beauty, function, and happy lotyls all in one tank
Which do you prefer—live plants, artificial, or a combo like this?
