There is a big difference between simply having axolotls that reproduce versus operating a breeding program that is built around the long-term health, genetics and welfare of the animals.

A backyard breeder may have a few animals, produce a clutch and find homes for the babies. A large retailer operates on an entirely different model, where animals move through a commercial supply chain.

Neither comparison really describes what we do at Lizzy’s Lotyls.

Our goal isn't simply to produce axolotls. It's to maintain a purposeful breeding program with the resources and infrastructure necessary to support the animals before, during and after breeding.

That requires significant investment.

And perhaps most importantly, we don't have to depend on selling an animal today to provide appropriate care tomorrow.

When you operate on a very small scale, it may be possible to keep expenses relatively low. When animals are moving through a large commercial supply chain, the priorities and structure are different. But when you're intentionally building a specialized breeding program, the costs can become substantial because you're investing heavily in the animals and the infrastructure supporting them.

At Lizzy's Lotyls, we believe the responsibility starts long before an animal is listed for sale.

It starts with the animals we choose to keep.

It continues with how we house, feed, monitor and breed them.

And it continues even further after the sale through education, transparency and standing behind the quality of the animals we produce.

We're not trying to compete with a backyard breeder, egg swapper/dumper, or a pet store by simply producing more animals.

We're trying to do something different.

Our focus is on producing healthy, well-raised axolotls through a breeding program supported by the knowledge, time, infrastructure, genetics, and the financial resources necessary to do it responsibly.

Because responsible breeding isn't just about how many animals you can produce.

It's about whether you have the resources to care for every animal as though you never sell a single one. ❤️🦎
